Dance Chance Atlanta offers innovation and experimentation

Dance Chance Atlanta, a series of monthly choreography showcases, is here with a big Atlanta-packed punch.  On the first Saturday of each month, the program will present new work by three local artists, and a moderator will then lead an artist talk-back. The first Dance Chance event is set for Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m.

Experienced choreographers, first-timers and artists in any medium who want to experiment with dance will have opportunities to create, share and discuss new work.  This series is presented by WonderRoot, an arts organization geared toward positive social change, dancer and facilitator Sean Hilton (who has danced with gloATL) and Atlanta Ballet, which will present the series in Studio 1 of its Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre.
How it works: artists vie for selection by dropping their names into a bowl on the evening of a preceding monthly showcase. Three artists and one alternate are drawn from the bowl, and they have about a month to create, revise or re-format up to 15 minutes of choreography for the next month’s Dance Chance. Bowls will be placed in four locations: WonderRoot, Atlanta Ballet, the Little Five Points Community Center and Octane Westside coffeehouse. Interested artists should drop their names, email addresses and telephone numbers into one of the bowls by February 4.
Inquiries should be directed to Sean Hilton at seananthonyhilton@gmail.com.
That's pretty cool, don't you think?
