Dance Blast on Weekly Performances and Events

COMING UP

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
CASTING CALL!
Seeking a male contemporary dancer to star in the lead role of an upcoming cirque nouveau production, Tarocco: A Soldier's Tale.
SYNOPSIS: The Italian tradition of Comedia dell’arte grows strange wings in Tarocco: A Soldier’s Tale, a mesmerizing fusion of circus arts, dance, mask-and-puppet theater, original music, elaborate costumes, and stunning animation.Tarocco tells the story of an Italian WWI infantryman, trapped behind enemy lines after barely escaping the gas attacks at Caporetto. To pass the time, the soldier comforts a dying comrade with stories using the images from an ancient deck of playing cards known as the Tarocco Piemontese (a predecessor of modern Tarot cards). What follows is a spellbinding and dark narrative based on the Fool’s Journey of the Tarot.
CHARACTER: We are seeking qualified male dancers for the role of Il Folle (the Fool). The only character onstage for the entire production, the Fool drives the narrative from beginning to end using no words, only movement; he must be able to simultaneously play the part of the pained, dying and brutalized WWI soldier (his character in the "real" world), and the mischievous, absurd, and profane Comedia dell'Arte-esque "Folle" (his character in the "fantasy" world). Note that this is not a comedic character, and his goal is not to make the audience laugh; rather, he references an ancient dramatic archetype while simultaneously underlaying the character with complexity, vulnerability, and pain. Strong applicants will have technical dance training in ballet, contemporary, and/or partnering; a passion for choreography; and a heavy interest in non-conventional theater.
TOUR INFO: Rehearsals will start June 13 in Asheville, NC. Lodging will be provided. Compensation will be $2,000 for the two month gig. The production runs its 13-show tour from July 21 till August 14, with performances in Asheville, Greenville, Atlanta, Winston-Salem, Knoxville, and Raleigh.
You can read more about the production at www.foxandbeggar.com/tarocco. To apply, please email Nat atnat@foxandbeggar.com with a cover letter and dance reel
